According to http://philippine-marriage.com/

In the Philippines, arranged marriages are still practiced among families with Chinese descent. The common reason for keeping the tradition is to merge the wealth of the two families involved in order to reach a higher status as well as to enhance influences in society.

Further, arranged marriages exist also among Filipinos. In the Muslim culture, young Muslim women are paired up with someone who can prove to the women’s fathers that they possess good financial capacity. This capacity in turn shows the help it can extend in enhancing the wealth of their own families.

However, when it comes to the emotional effects of the marriage between the couples, arranged marriages often fail to develop the love needed for both of them to grow stronger in their relationships. The forced circumstances even lead to cases of domestic abuse, marital infidelities and similar other ugly situations. This is primarily brought forth by the absence of a firm foundation in which the marriage can stand on. Without love as the guiding force, couples get easily discouraged whenever the other does not meet their expectations.
