MSU upgrades with P7.7-M computers


MARAWI CITY — Mindanao State University (MSU) has spent P7.7 million to buy 100 laptop computers and desktops and is increasing internet link bandwidth to speed up cyberspace connections and make MSU at par with the latest global technology used in other universities.
Worth P2.3 million, this top-of-the-line laptop computers were distributed to all colleges, academic chairpersons, dean of colleges and university officials, said Dr. Macapado Muslim, MSU System president.
Earlier, the university purchased desktops for its four colleges, as part of efforts to modernize the school’s computerization program and upgraded the catalog system of the main library and digital library.
Last year, Dr. Muslim revealed, MSU also spent P4 million to improve facilities of the Information College Technology (ICT) using the local funds of the university, as part of the school’s computerization program.
And to complete its modernization program, the university is increasing its bandwidth capacity to make the internet connection much faster in accordance with international standards.
“We have just bid out the multimillion peso bandwidth to enable the university increase the volume capacity of internet users with a top speed internet connection,” Dr. Muslim said in an interview.
Already, with a student population of 15,000, MSU has embarked on fully computerizing the university’s enrolment system, which would be completely enhanced by these latest moves to upgrade the bandwidth and internet link connection.
Once in place, MSU is expected to generate increased revenues in the College of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and three other colleges, as well as, the Main Library and the Digital Library.
Last year, local income of MSU reached a record high of P50 million. This is P1 million over the revenues earned during the last administration, while previous administrations posted negative growth.
